A lot of people have their own opinion on make up. Wether its art, a way to express their artistic creativity, or just a way to feel good about themselves, some people even think that make up isn't necessary. But to me applying make up represents my ME! Putting on make up starts off with vision in your head on what look your trying to pull off. With every decision I make, I make sure that its up to me, to think about what I'm going to do before I go ahead and actually to it.
Looking at the vibrant colors, from white to black and all the colors in between, red,blue,purple yellow. What color do I want to use? I like to experiment with all the different colors depending on my mood, I like using the natural browns and sometimes wild looking colors like reggae colors red, yellow, green eye shadow. Sometime I cant make up my mind and I can wipe it off and start all over more than 5 times to get to the look I actually want. I have days where I cant make up my mind with the things I do or decisions I make, sometimes I cant make up my mind until I tried all the different alternates as possible until I feel comfortable with my decision. All the different looks represent my moods, natural brown just another chill day, bright colors such as blue green purples feeling foolish and just want to have fun, smokey black and white is usually dull.
When putting on eye shadow I like using a base that I apply before putting on the colors. The base is used as a hold for the eye shadow almost like a back up, the color is suppose to stand out more with the base and its holds the color on longer. My bases are my parents,family and friends. Their my supporters with everything in life, they help me get through everything and make my goals possible to accomplish.
Everyone has their imperfections. Using concealers and powder covers up blemishes. People use it to cover up acne or stuff they have on their face that they don't want anyone to notice and powders and concealers does the job. My smile is used as my concealer I like to cover up things that tends to bother me with my smile. Covering up a put down can be hard but I like to think on the bright side and not let those words affect me as long as I know that Im not what it means I use that smile to cover up and move on. With that smile you would never think that anything was bothering me. Blush is something I like to put over my powder over the cheek bone, it just adds that brightness to my cheeks. My smile is used as a cover up for myself yet it brightens peoples day and sometimes bring a smile to their faces also.
Your not completed with out that shine to your lips, lip gloss, chap stick or lip balm any of that is the last thing I put when I'm applying make up its my finishing touch. My gloss is almost like the last stepping stone or the last step in achieving my goals. When thats done you end up with your finish product sometimes I can like the outcome or not feel satisfied with it. But once your done applying make up, I feel that I accomplished what you I out from the beginning.
Raena Bear, nice essay. Writing about make-up is very you. I like how you've compared make-up with yourself. Now not only does make-up remind me of you, but it also helps me to see your personality. Such as how you talked about your base being your family and friends, and how it helps you stand out. Good job with your college essay :)

Raena, your essay was really good and it kept me wanting to read on. This essay was so you ! Everything you said about the how you use a base each time you put on eye shadow which you compared to your family and friends. Also when you use concealer it covers up blemishes and it on other terms your smile covers up what your feeling inside. It helped me really understand your personality and how you act. ReplyDeleteI agree with Desha and Daryenne that you've done a nice job on the essay. And I also agree that the strongest comparisons are to the "base" and the "concealer." When you get to those paragraphs it seems as if you've gotten warmed up and so the essay gets stronger. Thus, I would suggest trimming the earlier elements about the colors, etc, unless you can relate them a little more specifically to your personality.
My other recommendation is to work on the conclusion. It ends with make up, but I think it should end with something about you and about your goals and aspirations.
Also, watch the shifts into second person (you). Towards the end of the essay, you start to shift from the first person "I" into the second person "you."

ReplyDeleteI really like your essay. It's loud and full of color. It really shows your voice and personality in the essay. I like how you compare yourself to it (lol, I wonder how you got that idea?) All I would say is to rephrase some sentences and you used I and you have an error "I feel that I accomplished what you I out from the beginning" so you should edit it.But other than that good job.
